CLAIMING IDENTITY
In a world of abundance and prosperity that simultaneously causes suffering elsewhere, the "Claiming Identity" collection calls for sustainable action and a rethink of selfish indifference towards future generations. The collection is a powerful statement against this excess, a call to actively take responsibility and appreciate the uniqueness of each individual.
By promoting sustainable design, we also address a silent victim of mass consumption: the loss of individuality. Our world has always been shaped by human design. Every object that surrounds us bears the signature of human creativity and has been given form, substance and purpose by it. For centuries, we have actively participated in shaping a universe that distinguishes us from the original chaotic mass from which we emerged. Design is more than just a creative act: it is freedom and emancipation. By designing objects, we not only give them an external form, but also meaning, longevity and an individual name that distinguishes them from others. Global mass production has distorted this concept and introduced predefined roles that influence self-identification. Instead of creating something new, we slip into predefined roles and adapt to designs that are waiting for us to submit to them. Everyone who enters this world is molded by society. Self-identification happens through prefabricated roles that we use as a shield against confrontation with our true selves. Over time, the fashion industry has repeatedly challenged traditional roles and reshaped identities through links with politics, business and culture. Currently, we are in a highly unpredictable phase of self-identity. Some are contributing to environmental degradation and mass overproduction by chasing trends and adhering to global capitalism. At the same time,
others are striving to completely break through these limitations and find freedom by blending, tearing, replacing and creating symbiosis between different roles.
The "Claiming Identity" collection takes up the theme in the midst of this area of tension. It deconstructs a uniform aesthetic that is deeply rooted in morals and stereotypes. The aim of this collection is to blur the clear boundaries between utility, formal and casual wear and to
emphasize the functionality as wel as the diverse possibilities of each individual garment. The essence of this collection is found in simplicity, through blank ID card pockets and forms, paired with an abundance of snaps.
The collection stands for rebellion against social conformity, encourages liberation from stereotypes and promotes a dance between functionality and expression. As a designer, I believe in the transformative power of design that transcends boundaries and creates space for the unfolding of individuality and consciousness. In this creative space, we discover the true essence of freedom, embrace the unpredictable and celebrate the beauty of our unique identities.
